Overview
WDS Developer Staging accounts are intended for those of you who update/develop web sites currently hosted by CUMC Web Design Studio. Account holders are solely responsible for site updates, you should know html coding and SFTP basic before you assume responsibility for your site upkeep.
Account Set-Up, Maintenance & Renewal
Each CAIT account gives client access to a single Web site. Clients that update multiple sites must open and will be charged for multiple accounts.
All accounts must be set-up using the online application found at:
http://vesta.cumc.columbia.edu/wds/forms/?developer=new
All new account applications must be signed by the appropriate department head and submitted to the WDS before the account can be set up. All accounts must be renewed at the end of each fiscal year. The deadline is June 30th. Accounts that are not renewed will be deactivated.
Security
Servers can only be accessed via secure telnet or SFTP clients. Please see "Developers’ Resources" for recommendations. It is against WDS policy to share CAIT usernames and passwords. Accounts are not transferable. Account passwords will not be reset without a written request by the account owner on file (signed e-mail is okay). WDS reserves the right to lock accounts showing suspicious activity without notice.
Server Space and Fees
Clients are responsible for monitoring their server space. The default allotment is 50 MB ($200 per year charge). Clients using more than 50 MB are subject to additional storage charges per the WDS Fee Schedule. Please note: Due to the large number of hosting clients we serve, the WDS is unable to notify clients prior to processing hosting fees. This occurs at the end of each fiscal year via internal department invoice (IDI).
Development Use Policy
It is against WDS policy (and a bad idea) to use development as a production server. If this occurs, please be advised that the WDS does not take responsibility for resulting site outages that occur when development servers are taken offline for maintenance. Please also note that this can occur without notice after regular business hours.
Acceptable Use & Copyright Policy
All users are bound by the Columbia University Computer Acceptable Use and Copyright Policy.
